Jonio is a multi weight ultra-condensed geometric display family which takes inspiration from the lost Vessilli typeface found in use in a specimen by Fonderia Tipografica Reggiani. It takes its name from the albanian word for Mare Nostrum, the Mediterranean Sea. The original rounded top/bottom shape has been developed in Jonio in five variant subfamilies: Calmo, Ponente, Levante, Burrasca and Uragano. Each variant comes in ten weights and feature an extended character set with accents to cover european languages. Open type features include stylistic alternates and ligatures to allow designers to implement it in logo design, packaging and branding projects.
